Sir Don Bradman Oration by Rahul Dravid

Sir Donald Bradman(1908-2001), one among the greatest Aussie players who is well known for his highest batting average of 99.94 in the Test cricket has almost played two decades of cricket in the era of 1928-1948. During his cricketing era he has scored 29 centuries of them 10 went on to double centuries and 2 went on to triple centuries. He is one of most respected batsman of all time who has earned a huge number of fans even in India. It won't be a surprise for us, as we all know that our Indian fans always respects the spirit and the quality of the game despite whatever team is playing.

Cricket Australia have started an event named 'Sir Donald Bradman Oration' in the year 2000 to honour the contributions of Sir Don Bradman to this game. The inaugural oration was delivered by John Howard the Honourable Prime Minister of Australia. Then the 9th Oration was delivered by none other than our 'Mr.Dependable- Rahul Dravid' . He became the first non-Australian player and the first ever Indian cricketer to deliver the Sir Don Bradman Oration on 14th December,2011 at the Australian war memorial, Canberra. In his terrific and admirable speech he has mentioned the values of Sir Don Bradman, the bond between India and Australia, the tradition and background of Indian cricket and some of his views on the future of the game.

Among all those mentions, I loved the part where Dravid narrated a story from his under19 match. That was a perfect example to describe the spirit of Cricket in India. Then he went on to describe the background, hardwork and dedication that his fellow Indian cricketers have implemented towards the game. Overall it was one of Dravid's exemplary speech that I have came through. I hope that every cricket fan likes it.

Here I'm sharing the video of Sir Don Bradman Oration by Rahul Dravid  :

To mention in particular, Dravid got a standing ovation at the end of this speech.
A week later to his Oration, Dravid got praises from Bradman's family. To check it Click here

Later Rahul Dravid and Glenn McGrath were honoured with Sir Donald Bradman awards at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 30th October,2012 for their contributions to the game both on and off the field with dignity, courag, humility and determination. This honourable award added one more feather to his cap.
Unfortunately due to some illness in the family, Dravid couldn't attend the award function. But he has sent his acceptance speech which was delivered by John Howard, former Prime Minister of Australia. While presenting Dravid's acceptance speech, Howard himself has said that he was honoured to have two similarities with Dravid - one is their passion for cricket and the other is both of them have delivered Sir Bradman's oration. Its really a honour for Dravid to earn such a remark from another great.

Hope you all enjoyed it.
Thanks for reading.

  4. Thanks a lot for sharing this information, i remember Dravid giving this speech and it was awesome. Sir Don Bradman is a great ambassador of the game and inspiration for all other great cricketers like Ponting , Dravid , Sachin etc. This speech was quite inspiring but sadly the series against Australia turned out the be last series of Dravid as he announced retirement after India's whitewash.
